Summer Teacher Mindfulness

It sometimes seemed as if it never would arrive, and then it showed up so surprisingly soon: summer! Built into every teacher is a certain life cycle, even if the teacher is teaching year-round, or (God-forbid) summer school. The anticipation of the weekends, holidays, breaks, and summer vacation is often more rewarding than the thing in-it-of-itself. This summer, let’s make the thing better than the lead-up. I say we need to practice “Summer Teacher Mindfulness.” My take is that teachers need summer to Relax, Re-group, Re-connect, Re-commit, and Re-train. Following are some practical ideas to re-charge and re-energize your teaching passion.
